THOMAS EVERETT AWARD OF EXCELLENCE IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION
The Association of Municipal Administrators of New Brunswick (AMANB) is pleased to invite you to partake in the nominations for the 2011 AMANB's Award for Excellence in Local Government Administration in New Brunswick. The AMANB is a professional association dedicated to the education and development of municipal administrators to ensure excellence in municipal administration and service delivery.
AWARD
Thomas Everett, a highly respected municipal administrator and one of the founding fathers of the AMANB, is the patron for this award which recognizes the exceptional achievement of a person who has shown distinctive leadership in local government administration in New Brunswick or who, by writings or other endeavours, has made a significant contribution in the field of local government administration.
The award pays tribute to local government employees whose career exhibits the highest standard of excellence, dedication, and accomplishment. It seeks to provide recognition of an outstanding individual and to underscore the need for creative, highly motivated and skilled individuals in the local government sector. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to local government as a result of any single or sustained exceptional public service deed. Candidates will be judge upon the criteria listed below which include their leadership skills, innovation/creativity, accomplishment/impact on public service.
CRITERIA
Eligibility:
- The award is open to current or former members of the Association of Municipal Administrators of New Brunswick
- Executive members of the AMANB are not eligible to receive the award while holding office on the Board of the AMANB
- Service in any field of local government administration, including work of an administrative or professional nature, should be considered relevant.
EVALUATION:
In the field of Local Government Administration:
- Leadership
- Innovation and/or Creativity
- Accomplishments and/or Impact
In addition to the above, the award also recognizes the importance of:
- Best practices in Local Government Administration
(See Attached Annex "A" Evaluation Criteria)
NOMINATIONS:
Package:
Nominations may be in French or English, typewritten and submitted with the following elements:
Nomination Letter - a cover letter including the name, address, telephone number and organization of both the nominee and nominator(s)
Biography - a brief summary (not more than three pages) of the nominees educational background, positions held, civic and professional involvement and other relevant data
Accomplishments - a narrative based on the selection criteria for the Award (not exceeding five pages) explaining the basis for the nomination that, in the opinion of the nominator(s), qualifies the nominee for the medal, with such supporting evidence as they may wish the Selection Committee to consider.
References - three letters of support for the nomination
The Selection Committee will make its judgement solely on the basis of the information received and will not seek additional information about any of the nominees. It will however, follow up with the nominator should one of the four elements from the nomination package be missing.
Please note, that in making its decision, the Selection Committee attaches considerable importance to the nature and the quality of the documentation submitted by the nominators. Therefore, submitting al full and complete package of information is advantageous.
SUBMISSIONS:
- Anyone may nominate a person for the Award, submitting their nomination to the mailing address listed at the end of this document.
COMMITTEE:
For the first year of the Award, the AMANB will strike a Selection Committee consisting of:
- President of the AMANB (Chair)
- Past-President of the AMANB (Vice-Chair)
- 1 Representative from the Department of Local Government
- 2 Representatives from Municipal Sector representing both linguistic groups
- Executive Director who shall serve as Secretary (non-voting member)
PRESENTATION:
The President of AMANB, on behalf of the Association, will present the award annually during the annual AMANB conference.
